I won this Willard Treadle machine on ebay for $35... local pickup, well an hour drive.... I got it home, oiled it, wiped her down, treaded the shuttle bobbin and treaded it and after a little while of adjusting the tension.... she sews like a dream.............. Great find... well at least I think so. John thinks I have a sickness ...

Beautiful machine and in really great shape!

girliegirl 07-15-2013 05:48 AM

Yeah i really like it.. the shellac is dry, might end up redoing the cabinet... just taking off the shellac, not the stain...

Wow! What a great purchase! I'm starting to think I may have an illness, too. How do you diagnose it, though? I really didn't start out collecting vintage machines, but I seem to have 3. I have been telling myself I don't need a treadle machine. I could be wrong. If I came across a buy like that, I wouldn't be able to resist.

Wonderful, really great score!!!

girliegirl 07-15-2013 07:09 AM

well, I stop counting at about 27! i am not sure how many now... I bought more, gave away more, lost a couple of them from being at friends home that doesnt bother with me anymore and I am sure I will never recover them.... I do have some that I am going to try to sell whenever I get chance to go through all of them... Just do not know which ones to part with... Oh you need more dear!

Sickness- obsession- who cares! Lovely machine and cabinet. Glad it was adopted by someone who will love it and not dismantle it to profit on parts or make a table!

omacookie 07-15-2013 01:10 PM

Love the cabinet and machine. Great deal. Thanks for sharing...I've got the same sickness, but trying to hold back on any more. My vintage ones are all Singers.

I have never seen a treadle machine in this shape of a cabinet. Great score and sure you will enjoy her!

Dollyo 07-16-2013 04:38 AM

Beautiful machine, great cabinet. Love parlor cabinets.

mjhaess 07-16-2013 04:56 AM

Great looking machine and cabinet....

Vridar 07-16-2013 05:12 AM

OMG! You hit the jackpot at $35?

tessagin 07-16-2013 05:18 AM

It's a beautiful machine. Revitalize it with some good body oil like Old English, then a good wax job. At least your sickness (even though it may be chronic) is not lethal.

Carol34446 07-16-2013 05:54 AM

Great Machine and cabinet. I just got a singer red eye 66 in a cabinet much like that and love the size of it as I am VERY limited in room here.
I paid more but is sews nice and they are great machines.

pocoellie 07-16-2013 07:20 AM

That's a beautiful machine and cabinet. Now who could pass it up at that price? Certainly I wouldn't have. Congrats on your great buy.

wordpaintervs 07-16-2013 08:58 AM

Something I'll never be able to own, even at that awesome price. Congratulations. I remembered this story I wrote about an old treadle and thought I'd link it here in case you wanted to read it. Enjoy the machine. It is so awesome.

Girliegirl,
Your new treadle is beautiful! I never find them here for less than a $100, even in terrible condition.

Sew4nin,
Its call SMAD, Sewing machine aquisition disorder! There's no cure because none of us want to be cured!!
