which portable case would a Singer 185 use?
I am looking to find one as a gift for a friend who has a 185 but no case.
As a "non-electric" collector, I really have ho idea what it should be (NOT the cheap modern "universal" plastic jobbers) To be perfectly clear, I am NOT looking to buy one from a person on here, I am looking to identify the correct item for my shopping needs |
The maroon one? It's the smaller one that the 99/Spartan used.

Ahh, ok, so most any 3/4 sized case would work. nice.
thanks |
Is this the same as the 185J? The one I have is the same color of green as the 185J, plastic, rounded corners, and most that I've seen are susceptable to dings and cracks on the corners. With the weight of this machine, I'd want a personal bearer or wheels.

Make a frame for it. Then find a tote it fits in for storage and transport.

Steve,
Here is the matching plastic case that the 185 came in. As elnan mentioned, these cases are fragile. The plastic has become brittle (if it wasn't always) and the supports in the base crumble - a workaround is required. More suitable (and practical) is the maroon-and-grasscloth case that came before, that typically housed the 99. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if, in the transitional period from 99 to 185, some 185s were sold in these cases. |
well, this actually got me thinking that I could do the same with my bentwood 99 case... if it'll fit, it'll be a cool "stealth modern" machine. fun gift.
Thanks everyone. |
I wonder if a case from a 99K would fit?
