Problems with a Necchi Super Nova

My DH got me from an Antique store the other day. It runs great. The problem I'm having with it is I have alot of gathering thread on the bottom. I have tightened the tension and rethreaded it and the bobbin. It was working great all day yesterday and just tonight started having the problem. Any suggestion would be appriceated. Thank you.

When did you last clean the bobbin area, oiled it and change the needle?

Also make sure needle is in correctly.

I just added to my list of things to consider, spray baste.

I started a project yesterday that I spray basted (normally I hand baste my quilts) that had sections with loops and tension problems. When doing test runs on same materials just minus the spray baste, the stitching was beautiful, but when I went back to the quilt with the spray baste I had sections of loops.

This may not be your situation, but just something to know about and consider when looking for solutions to machine problems.

I'd suggest checking the bobbin area and the needle plate very carefully for scratches or nicks. A tiny nick can catch the thread and interfere with the hook/bobbin action. You can try smoothing a small nick out with emery paper, (or in my case the edge of a scissor because my bobbin case was plastic)

Thank you all for your suggestions. My DH put a singer needle in it, and I didn't know it soooo I changed it. I did need to do alot of adjustment to the tension and DH oiled and cleaned the bobbin area, and I oiled the machine now it works great. :)

I have a Necchi Supernova that was having tension problems. I couldn't seem to get the tension accurate. Then one day I discovered a problem with the belt...it had the original belt which was falling apart. We replaced it and I haven't had any more tension issues.
