Proper needle for my 301A

I just broke the needle while using my 301A singer and can't seem to get the Schmetz needle in - does it take a special needle?

Nope. Just the regular 15x1...be sure you are getting it in the right way...check the manual. It's opposite of the other machines, because it threads right to left like the Featherweights.

be sure you removed all pieces of the broken needle

and give your 301A a hug from my 301A

My 301A works great with the Singer needles in her she's just like her big sister 301. Both are fun to sew with.

The needle does go in hard sometimes. Turn the thumbscrew a little more and wiggle the needle until it seats. The flat side goes to the right. My 301 sews fine with a Schmetz needle, but prefers a Singer for FMQ. Go figure. This is not a high tech machine and shouldn't be fussy. I just use Singer needles all the time for her. I found some for $1.99 for 11 needles at my LQS.

The needle goes in with the flat side to the left and threads right to left, Featherweights are the same.
If you put it in with the flat to the right, it won't pick up the bobbin thread. I use Schmetz needles in my old gals.

Whoops, the flat side goes to the left. It's a good thing purplefiend is here.
