Quarter inch pressure foot to fit older machines ?
 

Can I get quarter inch pressure feet to fit my old machines from the 50's and 60's ? I'm asking, because I took a pressure foot to a local sewing machine seller for the purpose of getting one to fit. I talked with a man on the floor and he looked down his nose at me and told me I will never find one. I seriously don't believe him.

I'll probably try that one next order I make.

Sew-Classic has quite a few different 1/4" feet. The person who told you that none could be had was giving you a bunch of nonsense.

Joe's got you pointed in the right direction. As long as it's low shank you should be set. I don't know of any that are available for top clamp machines like the older Whites though. I've always just used the seam guide on the bed of my machine for piecing.

thanks - says out of stock on the narrow one but I'll check back! I have one 1/4 inch foot out of about 4 I've tried that I actually like and figures I haven't found it at that shop again.

I use my old pressed feet on my fancy new machine and new ones on my vintage machines with no problem.

Do you mean a PRESSER foot? The PRESSURE control is on the newer machines to control how 'hard' the PRESSER foot lays on the fabric.

I'm using the ones right out of my own Janome box which happen to do the 1/4" job well on my hand crank and treadle.
That won't necessarily work across the board, you'll have to do due diligence in testing it. Wasn't quite right on my 404 so use a seam guide like Rodney, on that one.

I know several ladies who use the regular straight stitch foot for a 1/4" foot. I thought it was nuts but it seems to be close enough to do the job for a "personal private measurement" 1/4" a la Mary Ellen Hopkins.
