Question about Featherweight light bulb

I oiled and greased all the parts as per the manual. I put Singer motor lube into the two holes using Nova Montgomery's video. All works very well and is very quiet.

the light bulb flickered before it stayed on so I put in a new bulb. Same thing. Flickers and then stays on. Cords look in decent shape. I was reading on line about some of the newer bulbs not having good connections? Can anybody lead me to a good bulb if it appears to be just a bulb situation?

Is this a problem to prohibit using? No sparks, motor hesitation, etc.

thanks in advance.

If it is staying on and the wires look good I don't think I would worry.

Could be the center conductor in the socket is bent too far in so you're not getting a good contact. Try unplugging the machine and bending it out just a bit so the bulb seats more firmly against it.

Thanks Rodney. I will work on learning about that at a later time. I did switch out the bulb from the old 66 and the new one works in it and the one from the 66 works in the Featherweight.

You can get the new LED bulbs for Featherweight machines now. Certain sites carry them.

I had a traditional bulb in one of my FWs that flickered, and as soon as I changed it to an LED, the flickering stopped. I love those things! They're not nearly as expensive as they used to be. And they don't get hot, which is lovely.

Will look into the LED next time I need one. Thanks everyone

The bulb in my Featherweight was very hot. I would almost burn myself if I touched the shield over it. Then it burned out and I got a different bulb. What a difference. This bulb does not get so hot. I will certainly get a LED next time.

I think I got my LED bulb from Nova Montgomery. My old bulb wasn't burned out but I was tired of burning myself when I accidentally touched the guard. Now I don't have to worry about getting burned.

I just got my FW and straight away burnt the back of my hand on the light shroud while I was dusting her off. I ordered an LED bulb about five minutes later, LOL.
