Question about my Singer 15-91

I bought a 15-91 and have been cleaning, oiling and greasing it with Singer lubricant and also restoring the cabinet. I am now sewing on it but noticed that when I wind a bobbin the needle goes up and down. I loosened the stop motion screw first like the manual said, but the needle still goes up and down when winding a bobbin. I also looked in the adjuster's manual but can't find the answer.

Help, please?

You'll need to remove the handwheel and adjust the stop motion area. The screw in the handwheel shouldn't be loose. You turn the handwheel towards you to stop the needle action.

I checked that and the screw isn't loose. It is tight and between 2 of the little knobs, I rotated the silver knob towards me until one of the little knobs stops it but the needle still goes up and down when I try to wind a bobbin.

You need to adjust it.

Pull the handwheel off and clean that area...
The needle moving up and down while you wind the bobbin won't hurt anything if it's not threaded, it's just more of an annoyance than anything. :)

OK, will do and let you know how it turns out.

I took the handwheel off, cleaned the inside, checked the little gears to see if they were ok and not stripped out--they were OK. I put everything back together again and it still runs whether I loosen the stop wheel or not. I put the little stop washer in several different positions but it doesn't seem to make any difference. It is an annoyance but I guess I will just have to live with it.

Thanks for your help.

Mine does the same thing. It's unthreaded when I wind bobbins anyway so I ignore it. If you do get it figured out eventually please pass along the knowledge? :)

I will if I get it figured out! Until then, I'll just sew on it

It's a pretty easy fix; I'll dig through my machines to find one that has this problem, and illustrate with photos or videos how to fix this on my blog. When I get it together, I'll post notice on this thread.
