question on purchase
 

I just picked up an old Singer with serial no. AG233611 - haven't found a model number yet. It is in good shape, has attachments but no manual. I would appreciate any info on how to locate model # and free i(if possible) manual. Thanks!

It's a 99(1941) and you should be able to download a free manual. Congratulations on a great machine.

Can you post a picture? Someone here will be able to tell which model you have. It's very easy to misread the serial #'s (at least for me).

If you download the manual - take a good look at the pictures and compare to your machine - that way you'll know if it's a Model 99 of that vintage. There will be a manual revised 1939, and that is probably the closest to your machine. Singer made some modifications over the years - Singer first came out with the manual 18139 (99-13) in 1925, and then issued revisions in 29, 33, 36, 39 and 49 - and possibly others that I've not seen yet.

I checked it out and the manual available from Singer is the very last 99 manual issued, so it's going to have some features that aren't available on yours, and a few things will look different, like the stitch length lever. But the basic machine is the same.

I am located in OH and there was an address label in the machine from WY. Wonder how these things get moved around that way?

You are going to love that little 99. To me, the only difference between it and the FW is the weight. I have several of both, and LOVE all of them for their straight stitch quilt stitching abilities. I use them for my quilting classes, and everyone leaves the class saying they are going to be on the lookout for whatever they have been using for their lessons. The younger ladies don't mind the weight, but I simply cannot handle "heavy" anymore. Did you get yours in a case or a cabinet?

Hi JoAnn it was so nice to meet you at the Tenn Toga and looking forward to seeing you next year or sooner if down this way. I agree the older we get the harder it is to pick up these old machines but you gotta just love them.

This one came in a case which is also in good shape, especially considering it's age and the miles it has traveled.

Singer 99s are some of my favorites - they have a bigger bobbin than the FW...
