Questions on 1923 Model 66 Red Eye Treadle
I have been cleaning my treadle with lots of care as not to damage the decals. So far, so good.
It didn't come with a belt or needles so I need to purchase these. I have been trying to research what length belt for this model and what needles to start with but haven't found specific sizes so I was hoping someone here could help me with the following 2 questions. I can order from online but I want to get it right the first time. Thanks in advance for your help. (1) I'm guess a 72" belt would be fine and I can cut it down but should I get a 5/16 or 3/16 size? (2) Also will any Singer needles work or do I need a certain length/size to start with? |
a standard easy to find 15x1 size needle will work. and yes, 72" leather belt is long enough. here's the SINGER 66 MANUAL for your reference. on the last page it says all about needle (page 29).

Thank you so much for your help. Does it matter it the belt diameter size is 5/16 or 3/16?

Thanks Singer-guy and Jim I appreciate your help. Took the base off to clean it tomorrow...have you ever sprayed painted one? I'm thinking it just needs the light rust removed and maybe wipe off with WD-40. Any suggestions?

Sorry if I'm not using the correct terms for the parts. The actual treadle part is what I was referring to. It has light rust and is dirty, I have taken it away from the wood and sewing machine to the garage to clean it. I used steel wool to remove the rust from the wheel. I have kerosene I can use to wipe off the loosened rust and dirt. Will this be all that is needed? Or will the kerosene need to be removed from the wheel before installing the belt?

I clean all of mine with sewing machine oil only. I have repainted one or two, but MOST do not need it once cleaned up.

You might be surprised at the difference the SM oil will make.
The irons look pretty good I doubt they need much more than that. Rodney |
