Questions on Singer 66 & White Rotary

Saw these machines at an antique shop lat Sat. Singer model #AB613.488 in a case. Hand wheel moves freely, case is in beautiful shape, no scratches, stains, chips or fading. Machine looks very nice with some of the 'gold' worn off in the middle front where fabric would rub. Asking price is $125. Missing bobbin case/cover.

White Rotary FR2248520 (?). Must have gotten a number wrong as it doesn't come up but in looking thru pics I found a 1911 Black Swan that looks the same. Asking price is $89. It was on a shelf about chin height so had a hard time trying to check it out.

What are your opinions of these machines? The White is beautiful. I know pics would be helpful & I have some on my phone but I can't get them from the phone to the comp. Any help would be appreciated.

When I have to move photos from my 7- or 8years-old, flip phone to the Internet, I first send the photos from the phone to my computer email. I save them in the comuter in "photos" file, and then I can post them.

It's a few extra steps, but I don't always have my little digital camera with me.

I'm sorry I can not be any help with the machines; I'm still "new" to "old" machines, but I'm learning something everyday from this forum.

mm I'm newish too but I wouldn't pay that much for a 66 (I don't think) unless it has nice decals I don't already have or was in a cabinet(and part of that comes from already having overpaid back in my early days for less than good redeye)but it's not out of the ballpark for me since you said the decals are nice and the case is nice...I have a not so good redeye, a decent redeye(all mine are electric but the redeyes have the spoked wheel like they were something else before...) a godzilla one in a cabinet my mom found, and another with pretty to me decals..I wouldn't mind a lotus with nice decals showing up and since that's the one I"m missing I'd probably part with $125 in that case just to be done with the looking LOL! and to help keep a good shop I like in business I would also pay more or for a charity benefitting shop./sale I would pay more just to support...gosh now I"m wanting a lotus and pretty sure those decals were on the 66...

not familiar at all with the white rotary but it's definitely in the ball parkprice for a machine that strikes my fancy and I'm in the mood!

Thanks Caroline. Purchased my phone in Dec. & must have gotten a lemon. It is supposed to email, text etc. but when I follow the tutes to set things up there are things missing on the phone. Have the cord to transfer pic from phone to comp. & it goes to mass storage. Maybe I will go back to the shop with my tablet & take more pics.

Thanks Susanna. That model number is from 1927 but apparently a lot of them were made. It also does not have many decals. The White seems to have all the decals & embellishments & they seem to be in great condition. Don't know if it runs but it is so pretty I may just have to buy it. Both machines had a box with a few attachments. Hopefully, they are still there when I go back. Tourist season is just starting so I'll keep my fingers crossed. :)

Is it difficult to find the bobbin case/covers for machines?

Make sure the White Rotary has the bobbin case, they are very hard to find. I have a 1917 White Rotary treadle, its a wonderful machine. The hand wheel turns away from the sewist, it uses a modern 15x1 needle that most new machines use.

I have a white rotary --Godzilla brown finish that I haven't used . Only had it 3 yrs but in good condition and I know the owners brother. Have some attachments too but now tied up with this Kenmore for my charity group to use. It is portable but very very heavy.

I purchased the White Rotary today. The bobbin "door" is stamped with patent dates. 1st is 1890, last is 4/18/1911.
It is missing the bobbin case. I called a local repair person when I got home. He works on old machines(his wife has many) & will be looking for 1 for me. I'm also going to have him go over it. I was able to get it for $75 instead of $89.
I may have a boat anchor if we can't find a bobbin case & a new belt but it is colorful & pretty.

Are vintage machines as addicting as quilting?

Missing Plate

Try Sew-Classic.com and ask Jenny if she has a plate that would fit your machine. I just got a Model 15 plate from her and it was very reasonable. Perhaps she either has one or can direct you to one. They are two to 3 times more on Ebay. Her bobbin cases are the most reasonable I have found also. I just got one for the 15 and it was $5. or so.

Thanks Donna! I'll check that out tomorrow along with troubleshooting my phone to transfer pics to comp. & set up email.

If I had to choose, I would take the White any day. Just like them better.
