Quick urgent help needed, Sunday morning, I think I have a mental problem

So, um, this little jukebox zig-zagger, Haverhill brand model 666, caught my eye this morning.

It can be mine this afternoon for the price of a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream cones.

Please tell me what. To. Do.

Now.

Get out the bread and cheese!!!

onthebrinkofdisaster 03-16-2014 08:22 AM

No no you should get it ,youll be sorry monday morning if you dont! you only live once right?

aronel 03-16-2014 08:28 AM

I would already be making the grilled cheese and sending to the store for cones and ice cream!!!

tessagin 03-16-2014 08:28 AM

Whether or not the cabinet comes with it go for it. If I lived closer I'd help make the sandwiches. I make good grilled cheese sandwiches.

Cecilia S. 03-16-2014 08:29 AM

Um, onthebrinkofdisaster? LOL. Excellent name.

I just got off the phone with Dude. I am going to pick it up in a few hours. Then? The crazy part? I am then schlepping it 42 kilometers. On various city buses. Taking it to dinner enroute.

I really must be insane. But did you see those awesome starry push buttony dialley bits?!?!?!?!?

(OH, not the cabinet. Just the machine. I don't want the cabinet.)

Cecilia S. 03-16-2014 08:50 AM

And a cake.

I will be carrying a cake.

pojo 03-16-2014 08:51 AM

what are you waiting for

pojo 03-16-2014 08:53 AM

what are you waiting for
but don't go alone

soman2 03-16-2014 09:07 AM

You did not say what kind of cheese and what flavor ice cream?? I think it could make a difference!!lol

Bust out the Cheese and Bread!!! What are you waiting for....*thinks* yes, the grill, you must wait for the grill to warm up. But that gives you time to get the Ice Cream!

Rodney 03-16-2014 11:33 AM

Wrong place to ask for advice on whether or not to buy a machine. :) I like it and would get it if I was able. Too bad you can't take the cabinet too. that one looks like it has plenty of storage.

pocoellie 03-16-2014 11:43 AM

Definitely get out the bread and cheese.

Bluelady 03-16-2014 05:35 PM

I would snatch it up!

amcatanzaro 03-16-2014 05:58 PM

You went and picked it up right?

You will all be very proud of me.

I went there, cake in one hand (for a dinner later) and Old Lady Cart in the other. Lunch money in my pocket. Al prepared to buy myself the Blue Stitching Jukebox.

Well, it was a piece of crud.

Knobs were cheap-o quality. Two of them were seized. The dog-food (sic) drop was seized. The belt was broken. The motor was wobbling off, and was a cheep-cheep- replacement. The bobbin case was missing. The presser foot looked corroded. It was just in generally ill shape, and I think that it would not have looked much better after -hours- of my precious time.

All those things would be fixable, I know... but, it really just seemed shabby in quality. To me, when the outside bits are cheap and shabby, I expect the rest of it is made with about the same level of care.

So, I did the unthinkable. I thanked Dude for his time, and carried on my way. Cake in one hand, Old Lady Cart in the other. Left the sewing machine behind for someone else to deal with.

Anyone care to award me a Sensible Badge? I never got that one in Brownies. Did they have that in Brownies? Is it too late to join Brownies? Hmmm.

Lyncat 03-16-2014 07:21 PM

You did the right thing, in my opinion.

amcatanzaro 03-16-2014 07:27 PM

Mmmmmmm, brownies. Good job! I will award you that patch.

earthwalker 03-16-2014 07:28 PM

Yes, well done. No point in cluttering up your life with crud.

SteveH 03-16-2014 07:31 PM

well done!

miriam 03-17-2014 02:45 AM

Those make good parts machines...

cricket_iscute 03-17-2014 04:37 AM

Given how hard it would have been to transport - those babies can weigh 40 pounds or more - and the shape it was in, I think you did the right thing. It would have made a great story, though!

I wouldn't have minded having and refinishing that cabinet, assuming that it was sturdy or fixable.

oldtnquiltinglady 03-17-2014 12:10 PM

Just goes to show this world that quilters do have a lot "common sense" too. I am proud of you for passing on it--I do occasionally do the same thing with the "dirty word" stuff that GW tries to push off on us sometimes.....Good for you.

Material Witness 03-17-2014 01:32 PM

Well, be careful with that cake - you don't want to drop that sewing machine!

ArizonaKAT 03-18-2014 06:48 AM

I'm eating hot dogs all this week because of a 500A. I say go for it. Cheese is good food.

Macybaby 03-18-2014 08:40 AM

Well, since I raise a large portion of what I eat - that gives me even more reason to buy more machines! (Ok, I'm sure there is some logic in there - somewhere . . .)

cindynvb 03-18-2014 03:21 PM

That must have been disappointing.

nanna-up-north 03-18-2014 06:09 PM

Considering the fact that sewing machine addiction is really hard to control, I think you did well. There is always another wonderful machine out there that needs to be rescued ..... and probably in better condition. I also pass up machines that have several issues...... not enough time left in this life to take on any more big projects. I'll be lucky to get the ones I already have up and running like they need to be.

miriam 03-19-2014 02:15 AM

I like it when I get parts machines... but they have to be inexpensive or free...

giquilt 03-19-2014 02:26 AM

Yes, you did the right thing! What kind of cake did u make? Good job.

It's a nice looking machine all right. I'd be taken by it too. It seems to be missing its case, though. Is that why it's a barter?
You will not be able to carry all of that on a bus, will you?

I have to also warn you not to take it to dinner just after you meet: It won't respect you.
