re-wiring
Is re-wiring something a novice can do or do you reccommend it done by a repairman?

What is a repairman but a novice who gets paid? ;) Of course you can do it. Need a video to help?

I think the most challenging part is being careful when disassembling the motor; several shim washers, try to maybe make notes and stick them to scotch tape, sketch washers then fan blades, more washers then armature then more washers. A cheap set of calipers & you could note the thickness of the washers. Work over a big plastic pin when you pull it apart so none fall onto floor. Check the length of the brushes, and note curvature worn by the armature, if reinstalled differently, they may spark a lot until they reseat. I'm going too long here, sorry. A motor rewinder might be better than an "electrician"
Good luck! |
What are you re-wiring?
|
I like the way you think.lol Thanks

Mark I have several old babies that need rewiring. Right now its just a thought.
|
That depends on what you're rewiring. A small appliance is one thing. Anything after that you need to check out a video then maybe an electrician. All depends!

Thank God for u tube. I think I can do this! Not so sure I could do the motor though.

Wires and connectors are easy, take pics, use masking tape to hold little screws and to keep them in order of how you took them off. Liquid electrical tape is easy and cheap to use, also available at walmart. Good luck
