Removing drawers from treadle cabinet.

I recently bought a Singer 127 in what I believe is a #2 cabinet. The cabinet has damage to the finish on top but is in good shape otherwise. I'd like to remove the drawers on each side of the cabinet so more of the iron is showing. Will this harm the structure or ability for the treadle to operate? (I tried Google and that hasn't been helpful.) :)

welcome Karen, I'm pretty positive one of the vintage brains will be along shortly :), I just wanted to say hi

No this will not harm the treadle or function but do save them if you ever decide to sell the machine

Thank you Glenn, just what I was hoping to hear.

I use my mother's treadle, and couldn't live without those drawers. They are so handy for threads, scissors, just like any other sewing machine cabinet. When they are out, the cabinet looks incomplete, for the wooden support guides are just left "hanging".

I have a treadle I take to Toga that I removed the drawers and their hangers. It makes it easier to transport and to move around the house.

Welcome to QB! Your post reminded me that about 20 years ago we would often find the drawers for sale at antique stores. They are the perfect size for the small floppies that we used back then, and to this day I have 3 of them, full of old floppy disks under my desk gathering dusk. It's been years since I had any way to read those disks. Maybe a cabinet will come along someday that is missing some drawers. I imagine you could keep your drawers to store something. Definitely,, as Glenn says, hang onto them because most people who would want a vintage machine prefer to have it as close to original as possible.
