Request for info on antique Sears Roebuck machine
 

I recently acquired a Sears Roebuck treadle sewing machine. I'd like to know what year it was made, and what kind of collector value it has. I couldn't find a similar table with a google search. What intrigues me is the "Sears Roebuck And Co." cast into the latticework of the treadle and side leg.

The machine itself is a Minnesota Model E, serial D957666.

Minnesota was a name Sears used because they started in Minnesota. It is a badged machine made by someone else.

It is a vibrating shuttle machine, but I will let others tell you who actually made it. Millions of sewing machines were made and most were well taken care of. Monetary value varies from location and condition. Don't plan on selling it and retiring. Maybe a nice evening out.

Google shows a few websites dedicated to this machine.

This Minnesota was made by Davis in 1901. A few years later it was renamed Minnesota A. The sewing machines were shipped from the Davis factory on Dayton, Ohio by rail to the customer.

The finish is poor and decals are quite worn. How do you handle restoring this detail?

As far as restoring detail, it is up to you. There is a thread here https://www.quiltingboard.com/vintag...v-t167789.html It could just made to be functional or could strip and repaint and add decals. Probably, the original decals are no longer available. If the finish is shellac, you could follow the instructions found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/vintag...s-t193635.html The metal pieces can be removed and polished with metal polish.
