Restoration - 1876 White Model A - VS Machine
 

Hey folks,

Here are some photos of the White Model A. It is a Vibrating Shuttle machine I picked up on Ebay.

it's been over a week since I got it, so here is what she looks like now.

NOTE: check out the first two pictures of the previous post and you can see the "clever" homemade upper "threadguide " made of twisted wire.

Here you can see the results of my being a bit overzealous and removing some of the rear details... Lesson learned.

here is a staged shot showing how i cleaned out the slide track.
(this resulted in it being TOO loose, until Cathy (Mizkaki) showed me how to adjust the slide for tension with a slight "arc")

VERY simple mechanism. Howe's and W&W's were so expensive, these Whites were really going for the "everyman" (woman) model..

Been where you are more than once. It's a ticklish thing getting all that old crud off the machines with out ruining the paint or decals. But it's fun at the same time.

What is that screw that sticks out of the front just to the left of the slide plate?

Did you find a replacement thread guide or are you going to fabricate a replacement?

Are you referring to the screw that holds the needle plate down?

No way i'm finding a replacement guide. The REAL issue with this is that the busted off guide seems to be in a hole that does not go all the way through, and in fact is actually drilled into the thickness of the cover metal. (if that makes any sense)
