Is this right?
 

I've been looking for a vintage machine that I can use for FMQing and I came upon this one. It is described as a Singer 319W, but the other ones I looked up didn't look at all like this and there is no mention of the green and black color. If it is a 319W can it be used for FMQing? I am a novice with vintage machines and the description left a lot to be desired!

find the serial number on the machine (possibly on the bottom) then visit the singer site- you can enter the serial number and find out exactly what it is, the year it was made and download a manual for it.

This is posted for sale and the serial number isn't visible. I would hate to buy it and find out it wasn't what I thought and won't work for what I hope to use it for. This was the only picture posted.

It doesn't appear to have a foot pedal or power cord, so I may be buying a "decorative" machine for my sewing room, but I am going after it....fell in love with the unique coloring! I have to stop browsing!

I have a 319w Singer in my collection in both all black and in all green. In fact, the black one was my first vintage machine and the reason I fell in love with vintage Singers....be aware if you do sew with it, it takes a 206 needle that you can order on line....It is a wonderful machine!

Can you drop the feed dogs on the 319w? Not that it matters now, because I want it either way, but maybe I could just cover them if they can't be dropped. I am sure I will be looking at online sources for pieces and parts since it comes "naked". Thanks for the tip about the needles.

You can FMq on a Fw without dropping the feed dogs so maybe you can with that one.

The 319 is not great at FMQing. This machine pictured is a Frankenstein machine and it's not something I'd spend money on, or much money on.

Yes, the feed dogs drop, but the motor is not powerful and is one of my slower machines. It also does not work well with any low shank FMQing feet I've tried on it. If you want a FMQing machine specifically,you should get a different machine. The 301 or 15 would be much better choices in that regard.

You can buy foot controllers and cord sets from Sew-Classics on line and you might find them at your LSMG. I had to replace the cord set for my wife's 319K and I found them locally.
Just make sure how it's wired, cabinet or portable, so you order the correct version.

Our 319K has a knob under the bed to drop the feed dogs so I'd wager the W model does too.

As for the color I'm thinking some one did a bit of parts mixing. I've never seen a black machine with green parts. Looks good though.

I have not tried FMQ with mine-----but it is so much fun with all those different levers----I also have one that is tan but it has a green motor----I just tell it, it needed a transplant

I think I might pass on this one, I contacted the seller... no foot pedal, no power cord, doesn't know if it works and I think the price is kind of high so even though I really like the way it looks I would end up investing too much for a machine that might not do what I want anyway. Thanks Candace for the reality check!

I tried free motion on mine - didn't like it - I was using the darning plate and a darning foot that came with it - not enough room for my fingers - it didn't feel as good as my old 15 clone - good machine though - you might enjoy one - offer a lot less money.

That is a machine that has been cobbled together with parts from 2 different colors of 319's. Run - don't walk.

Be aware that it takes needles and bobbins that are not available in a large variety of types and sizes. That particular machine looks like to was put together with parts from several others. They did come in green and in black. If I recall correctly there were 3 or 4 in that series, which were the first ZZ machines sold for home use in the USA. I THINK they were 206, 306 and 319. I had one once, but didn't like it so gave it away.
