The Royal Sewing Machine Company, England, 1888c (?)

Hello everyone, I just became a member. I'm new at quilting and loving it. In search of a Singer "red eye" treadle machine, I ended with a black treadle sewing machine that looks like Singer, but it is not Singer. I've tried to find info. on it, and don't seem to find any. Has any member even heard of this such brand? I have attached a few photos for you to see. No s/n or anything engraved. Thank you kindly.

It looks like a Singer 15 clone. Pretty machine. You should be able to find a free downloadable manual for a 15 clone machine. 15s are great machines. You will enjoy yours. :)

Hello Labradorsmom, I have done a quick bit of research. The Royal Sewing Machine Co of Birmingham ceased trading in 1888. This looks like a Japanese clone of the Singer 15 where they have used the name of a defunct company on the decals to make it appealing to English speaking buyers.
Anyone else got any theories? PS any chance you can re-post the pictures the right way up, please? |
Hello again, I have now checked the Needlebar Picture Library. There is a picture of a Japanese/Far East 15 clone marked Royal Sewing Machine Corp. They cannot identify who actually manufactured it.

As Muv stated, it's one of the clones manufactured in most likely Japanese after War II. This machine should be very nice for FMQ. Lovely decals on this machine! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks a million to all.......

No, it's not a fake, it's a genuine clone!
If you ever want to try free motion quilting, it could be that this machine would be better than the red eye. It's all to do with the position of the bobbin and the method of stitch formation underneath. |
Thank you Muv, as soon as I feel comfortable with the "pedal as you sew" I will most definitely try free motion quilting technique.

Hello friends, I deleted the pictures above, apparently, I copied them as file only. Anyways, I have updated my machine photo album with new ones showing total restoration and cleaning. Thanks so much. I also printed out the Singer 15-88 manual for free from Singer.com ~ thanks so much for the info.
