Rubber drive wheel on Rotary White motor
 

I am looking for a rubber drive wheel on the motor shaft for a 1943 Rotary White sewing machine. Mine is very worn and has 2 or 3 indentations on it. This makes the sewing machine run in jumps and is hard to keep a smooth speed. Can anyone tell me where I may be able to find something like this. Thanks

Check out Sew Classic http://shop.sew-classic.com/Motors-a...-Parts_c21.htm, and see if one of the motor pulleys will fit. I haven't tried a new pulley, but mine had a flat spot that I was able to mostly smooth out using a Dremel tool sander. (Messy and annoying to do, probably wouldn't work on deep problems).

After you get a new drive wheel, find something to use to shim it away from the wheel-the motor should tip away from the machine-when you're not using it. (I use the short end of a broken wooden spoon.) That will keep the flat spot from happening again, and wow, they happen fast! It doesn't need to be a big gap, just so long as the rubber end isn't touching the wheel.

eta: Don't ask me how many drive wheels it took before I learned to remember to do this!

The spousal unit took my "dented" one off the machine and to Ace Hardware, where he found a rubber wutzit to replace it. Mrs. Boats is right. When the machine is "down" in the cabinet, you need to find something to keep the rubber off the wheel...that's what causes the dents.

ETA: If that fails, I got a new drive from Guy Baker, but it didn't have the bobbin winder pulley on it. It worked, but I wanted that pulley. Cost was $8...

Hee hee, I was walking by mine one day and it hit me. Tilt out the motor, silly! I used some cotton balls wedged in between the machine and the motor. (It's what I had close by at the time my epiphany hit). :)

Any well stocked hardware store will have a large cabinet with all sizes of o-rings in it...not the big box stores, they carry the bare minimum...you need to find a good old fashioned hardware store!

I am ordering a new one for the White Rotary I purchased recently - my trip to Ace Hardware in town did produce a rubber "wutzit" but it didn't work well. I went to our local sewing machine shop - they had a couple sent over from their store across town - but the technician said no since the two he had a little longer shank on them and made the motor wobble too much.

For your drive wheel you might try Thayer Rags Parts { http://thayerrags.com/ } I got a couple from him a few months ago. I believe the motor has a 1/4" shank. Those Sew-Classic sells won't fit properly.
