Ruffler Attachment Doesn't seem to fit
 

I have a Featherweight. I can't seem to get the ruffler attachment on. It just doesn't appear to be enough space between the bed of the machine and where the screw attaches it. I know it came with the Featherweight as an original part. I've used it before. Ages ago. What am I doing wrong?
It's interesting that the oldest machine I have is the one that will gather a dust ruffle the easiest. Or so I thought before trying to attach the ruffler to the machine. Ha

Well, are you sure it's the ruffler that you used on the machine before?

My theory is that either you are trying to put the ruffler on with the presser foot shaft down, or it's a high or slant shank ruffler.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

I'm not sure of much of anything anymore. It just looks really old like my Featherweight. So remembering as best I can at this age, I would've thought it went to the FW. But it definitely doesn't fit. I don't recall having a ruffler for any of my subsequent machines. Which there have only been 2, in addition to the one I"m using now.

I'm with J Miller here; either you have the wrong attachment, or you have just given up too quickly with the one you have. Sometimes you have to give your FW a furry eyeball or two to make it bend to your will. If you are sure it is the only ruffler you have, and the only one you've ever had (and provided no one plunders through your stuff when you're not around); you've got to be the winner here--not the FW. oil the ruffler, work it by hand, then try to put it on

More than likely you're just not holding your mouth right. Sometimes getting the mounting bracket lined up with the screw hole while getting the actuating lever over the needle clamp at the same time is hard.

Just make sure the presser foot shaft is all the way down and then give it another go.

Just for the fun of it I took a pic with three rufflers lined up so you can see the difference in the mounting brackets.

Thanks for the pics. Mine looks the most like the low shank in configuration, but the screw mount piece is slanted a bit. And my FW is a 1948. I don't know if that means anything to you. You seem to know the FW's.
I could take a picture, but haven't been successful uploading to this board.
I will give it another go today. My DH was going to look at it last night, but we got tied up babysitting our DGS.
