Is It Safe?
 

Does anyone know if it is safe for the sewing machine to use the canned/compressed air to blow out the accumulated lint & thread. I mean the kind you use to blow our your computer keyboard or other small places. Has anyone used it & if so what were the results? I have a can of "Duster" (brand name) that came with a small straw that you can use to direct the air to specific places. The can says "removes dust from electronic equipment" and you can buy it or some other brand where office supplies are sold. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Don't use it. Where do you think all this lint, thread and excess junk is going to go when it's shot with the air? It'll just go deeper into your machine. The only time it's used is by repairmen when the machine is fully open.

Depends. What sort of a machine? Most of the machines I have are open on the bottom, so there is no where for the accumulated junk to get trapped, though it might make a mess with it blowing everywhere.

I would agree that on some machines it would not be a good idea to use canned air.

Yup. Vintage machines are usually open but modern machines are fully enclosed. Good point.

I wouldn't use it either. I use those little double-ended brushes from the sewing shop. They're so cheap that you could have one for extremely dirty, one for dust, one for oil, etc.
Also, it's not an electronic device :)

I do not use it, I use a small vac attachment.

just like Laptop and PC cleanup, VAC not blow..... (and at least here you do not need to hold any fans in place while you do)

don't blow out air you suck it out with a vaccum
