Well I was wandering around on CL tonite and scored another Featherweight for $25. This one is with out a case or pedal but comes with manual and will have to be refinished. I am going to paint it a soft metallic Pink per a very special someones suggestion.

At any rate I am on cloud nine and I am still amazed I got another one for $25!!

Love the idea of a Tutorial as much as I love this machine! And the price is unheard of around here. Cannot wait to see this redone. I know you will make it look stunning. I am happy that you found such a great deal!

vintagemotif 09-29-2010 09:39 PM

That is one sad looking machine right now. Great find! Looking forward to reading the tutorial on restoring this one.

Kyiav10 09-29-2010 09:41 PM

Yeah I am really looking forward to working on this one. But it will have to wait for a while before I get around to it. I have a lot of customers machines I need to take care of first though. But I will have it finished before Christmas ;)

That sounds most lovley. Can't wait to see her in her new frok. I know you will do an awesome job!

Lacelady 09-30-2010 02:54 AM

Billy, that is an amazing price, but then you have the capabilities to make her look as if she is dressed to the nines, wheras most of us couldn't tackly that kind of restoration.

I looke forward to the tut too - I don't think my new one stitches - at least, I have tried turning the wheel by hand, and it made a stitch about every quarter of an inch. I suppose it is a timing issue.

LeeAnn 09-30-2010 04:06 AM

Can't wait to see it when you're done! It will be a beauty for sure.

mygirl66 09-30-2010 04:18 AM

Awesome find! Have you ever painted one black & orange?

Quilt Mom 09-30-2010 04:21 AM

It will be an awesome transformation! Good job snagging a FW at that price!

ForestHobbit 09-30-2010 01:26 PM

This poor baby certainly needs your talented hands. Can't wait to see her after the makeover!

There were 4 Featherweights on CL in the San Francisco Bay Area/SouthBay area this week. The least expensive was $399 and the most expensive $650. No deals like yours in California that I've seen. You Are a lucky guy.

Are those colors for Halloween or because you own a Harley?

Deara 09-30-2010 01:34 PM

What a blessing and just the person to restore her too.
Pink, huh?, as in Pinkie Tuscadero?

That poor little machine was rescued by just the right person!! I can't wait to see her transformation.

hperttula123 10-03-2010 06:38 AM

what a deal.

Lostn51 10-08-2010 04:12 PM

Okay I have the machine in my hands and it is a VERY early model!! Now I do not know what I want to do with it. I guess I will restore it but it is really rough with the aluminum pitted in several areas. But the allotment date is December 30 1935.

I am going to order the decals for it and I am thinking it will be a metallic black if I change to a custom color. But I am very happy with the machine!! I was told it runs and it came with the original manual with 221-1 on it!

Billy<<<<<<doing a happy dance

wvdek 10-08-2010 04:18 PM

Can't wait to see the finished product, Billy.

Lostn51 10-08-2010 04:44 PM

I am going to the worlds biggest yard sale and
Octoberfest tomorrow and I went to the bank a grabbed a hunk of cash and I hope to come home with several Featherweights along with how ever many treadles I can fit! I will get one I can paint pink but I dont think I want to destroy a super early one.

Billy

KatFish 10-08-2010 06:17 PM

Have fun. Be sure to post of pictures of your finds so we can all drool.

Okay not much to drool over but here she is. I am going to paint it a metallic Black so it will maintain its integrity as one of the very early FW's but it will still have a custom flair to it. I am going to have to by another one to repaint Pink but that one will be gifted.

But most folks would not try to save this machine because I think it was a Katrina machine and was under water for a while. You can tell it has been in or around salt water from the deterioration of the aluminum. I broke the basket off trying to get the bobbin case out but thats no biggie I have the parts here to rebuild it if all I had were a bare case!

But here it is......

Billy

CarrieAnne 10-09-2010 02:19 PM

Lucky you, what a DEAL!

Lacelady 10-10-2010 06:55 AM

Aw, who would dunk such a nice machine into a whole lot of water? What did they do, use it for an anchor?

Shemjo 10-10-2010 07:17 AM

Lesley, That machine was in the Hurricane that went through New Orleans area a couple years ago. There were homes under water for a long time, and there are still areas that have not been cleaned up. Who knows what other "finds" there are lurking for the adventurous?
