screw remover

What's that stuff that you put on old stuck screws to loosen them?

Penetrating oil?? Not sure but I think that should help.

Let the oil do it's job and let it sit for awhile most of the day. You don't want to strip the screw. Good luck.

if the machines are old enough you may find left hand thread screws. Just FYI

Is it WD-40??

bkay 12-17-2016 05:02 PM

No, "they" say not to use wd-40 on machines. DH wen to Home Depot and found the one I'd read about - PB blaster. He's into guns, so I use his tools and "stuff". The other day, I was trying to get some feed dogs out of a machine and didn't have room. I had bought some offset screwdrivers at harbor Freight, but the heads were too big for the screw. So, what did he have stashed in his room? A brand new set of Chapman screwdrivers! They are perfect for messing with sewing machines. The feed dogs came right out.

Liquid wrench? Not sure how safe it is for finish of machine.

I'm glad you figured it out bkay!!

And glad to hear you now have a great set of tools to help you. The right tools make every job easier.

When you go to take the screw out, hold firm steady pressure on the screw, not just a hard twist. Let it break itself loose.

Thanks, Ken. I stripped a screw on a Touch and Sew today. I was soft metal, but still...

I forgot to spray it with the stuff.

This is a learning process for me. Hopefully, the parts will be usable when I finish.
