I use a small ratchet that has a screwdriver adapter and can interchange different size tips. You can usually find these in inexpensive (and up) sets at hardware chains. They may even still have some leftover stocking stuffer items like this. It has a low enough profile to get at most bed screws, but I can still get some strength behind it for stubborn stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have located a ratchet one at www.leevalley.com; the best part is that it's $8 and I can get it here in Ottawa.

Short screwdrivers don't make it for me. I use a long one (about 12 inches) that gets over everything. You can find them for just a few bucks at your local hardware store.

Oh DRATZ ! I cannot find the name now. this is a problem I was having and scoured all over and came up with a ratcheting screwdriver set that is small and short to help with those screws on the needle plate and the feed dogs sometimes. I wanted one that fits into the slot CORRECTLY, not on an angle, so that the screw head will not strip or start to strip. I found one at HF for just under $10 which is working fine most of the time. the good one is made for gunsmiths and the cost about $25 (which is on my want list). one I break the hold, using the ratchet handle, I just pull out the head and finger it out.

we need a thread just for tools of the trade (oops hobby) of what we use that works. from toothpicks, cotton swabs, screwdrivers, needle nose pliars, oils, cleaners to sledge hammers (sorry miriam). anything that we use that helps us in our work(hobby).

I love my Chapman 8900 screw driver set. Hollow ground bits that don't slip out and a slick little ratchet.
