Serata hand-crank machine

Has anyone come across Serata machines? A friend has just shown me one that was owned by her mother, who died aged 93 last year. It has a very fine wooden case and beautiful, elaborate decals with a lion on them. I've established that it's a German machine, but that's about it on Google.

The Serata was a name given to some machines made by Stoewer.

Since some of the threads have multiple pages and hard to figure out what pages they are on, so I will sometimes search google with site specific which will link to the page of the thread, rather than the whole thread.

Thankyou very much - my friend will be delighted to have this information. It's a beautiful- looking machine with a very fine case.

I own one. It is a bit noisy but a sweet stitcher! Make sure the shuttle area is clean and well lubricated. Mine has no lid but has my heart.

Do more research through Needlebar and ISMACS. The region they come from is near Poland. They are a well crafted, small city machine.

Thanks for the info. It's a beautiful-looking machine. My friend learned to sew on it. First time I've seen a shuttle like that - my Singers have conventional bobbins.
