Serial number on Singer 66-16

Just purchased a 66-16(?) which had a 66-6 manual with it. The serial number in the lower right corner of the machine does not match for a 66-16. It says it is a 221-1. The serial number is AG 853182. I'm not sure about the A. It is faint on the plaque. From pictures I have compared it to, it is a 66-16. How can a serial number not match a model? Please help with some answers.

Are you sure it is an AG? Or is it AC? Sometimes the serial number letters are hard to read.

Caroline, it looks like an AG. The G looks well stamped. Thanks.

I have since found out it is a 3/4 size 66 which is a 99. Have not checked to see if serial number matches.

granny64,

Just to jump in here with my two bits:

Serial number AG 853182 shows to be a 221-1. 1 of 10,000 allotted 10-25-46. There is a group of 66s indicated in serial #'s AG- 832846 to 847845 on 10-25-46 so maybe your 66 got stamped in the wrong number sequence. Just a thought.

Serial number AC 853182 shows to be a Mdl 66. 1 of 35,000 allotted November 9 - 1929.

Could you post a pic of the machine and a close up of the serial number??

Joe

Joe, What is Mdl? Thanks. Need hubby to post pics. Will try later.

Mdl is an abbreviation of the word model.
