Sewing Machine Oil? Sewing Machine Lubricant?

I'm curious, other than the obvious difference of physical appearance and composition, what is the difference between sm oil and sm lubricant and can they be used interchangeably. If not, how do you know when and where to use what?

I'm not sure but I think the lubricant goes in where the motor brushes are, and the oil is for the little holes. They are not interchangeable. Please get more info from your manuel.

The oil is for oiling wherever 2 pieces of metal rub against each other. The grease is for motors and gears.

If your working on that standard, have it taken apart. your lube / grease is the clear / lite lube go ahead and put some on the metal parts. only leave a film of lube....light coating.. then put it together with oil.

No, not the Standard yet. I'm going to work on my 31-15 first. I don't want to work on the Standard until I've had more practice doing this. So you're saying I can lightly combine both?

This is the lubricant I plan on buying, I don't have it yet so I don't know if its clear or not:

Do you have a lubricant you can recommend 10xs or will that one do?

as far as a lubricant not really. I use so many different type of lubricant ,
so I'm not picky on brands names. put it this way something is better than nothing.
once a guy at a sewing machine shop, gave me a half pint of some special ( home ?? ) Brew oil, That stuff worked better than any oils I have used, that's was polishing and lube

If it's thick, I sure wouldn't put it in the same place as the clear, liquid oil. Seen too many machines gummed-up with "grease" where oil should have been used. For example, you don't want to put anything greasy on the take-up area or bobbin winder clutch. That's just asking for a froze-up machine.

right no thick stuff of any kind. we all know to use a machine type oil / grease / lube..

annnnd I if I have it, Brew up automatic transmission fluid and actone /lacquer thinner mixed as a very thin oil. use that to flush out bearing areas and gears.
