Sewmor 202? Older machine suggestions?
 

With graduation looming I may actually have time to start some projects. I pulled out the Singer 513 that my grandmother left me and it's really seeming tired. Probably could use a little TLC, but I would still like something a little more sturdy. Local craigslist has a pretty Sewmor 202 that looks to be in decent shape that comes with a few accessories.

Is $50 a decent price, assuming it runs and just needs a little oil/grease? Any one use these? How do you like it?

There's also a bunch of older Singers (including some treadles) and this Kenmore that also caught my eye:

I'd really like something that could handle canvas/heavier material on the occasion that I have to do a patch on a horse blanket (luckily the little crazy redhead is pretty easy on her wardrobe).

Get the top one. It is a clone of a Singer 15. They are hard to beat. If it isn't sewing a nice seam when you buy it get them to drop the price. It may need a bit of TLC but if you are going to sew you need to learn that, too. You can search Singer 15 clone and come up with everything you need. Parts are easy to come across. Bobbins and needles are standard. I've only had one or two clones that I couldn't make work. And I have had a lot of clones go through here. A few years ago I posted a thread and there are lots of pictures and info I'll try to bring it back up.

Same as the SewMor, but a better price! Wish I could find the cute ones that cheap.

It was actually listed at $50 obo, so I offered $30, which the seller accepted. I have to make a 20 or so minute drive out of my way to get it, but that's fine. He just wanted the machine gone.

Now I need to pick up some oil and brushes for cleaning, as I doubt anyone has done much with it for a while.

Were Sewmores made by Toyota?

Leon, IDK but Emdekos were made by Toyota. I have 3 and all are fantastic machines since I worked them over.
