SEWMOR VS Machine
 

My newest acquisition is a SEWMOR VS machine. No model # evident. It's a 3/4 size machine that looks to be a copy of the Singer 128. It's in pretty nice shape with only dirt, body oil residue and mold on the paint. The plated areas are all but perfect.

Rear; This little machine has no light. Does anyone have a Singer 128 with a factory light they could post a pic of for comparison?

Miriam asked if it had the big lever in the other thread. I didn't know as I couldn't see it in the GW pics. But it sure does:

The lever to the right of the knob is the forward / reverse lever. The round knob rotates almost one turn for stitch length adjustment.

The birds nest in the original pics was found to be caused by incorrect needle installation. The needle was put in flat to the rear. Ooops. When put in correctly, flat to the right, it sews beautifully.

The case top is in great shape, but the bottom has been wet. It will need repaired and the fabric reglued. No big deal really.


Now I really need to get to the cleaning part. Any suggestions on what to clean the head with to remove the grime and mold? Also if anyone knows of an original SEWMOR manual for this machine please let me know.

All in all I'm tickled silly with my newest SEWMOR.

Joe I'm tickled for you! Very cool. I got a machine in similar condition a few years ago and what I used was Lysol wipes to get the yuck off, paper towel to dry it right away and then TR3 to shine it up.

Most long bobbin winders have a hook or some other guide at the bottom to direct the thread up to the forked lever. This one has a spring loaded tensioner ( arrow). It really works great.

Yup yours has the lever on the right.

You're welcome. It's looking real good Joe, I hope it sews well too. I've also used baby wipes on machines that were just dirty, but liked the Lysol wipes for the moldy one.

Nice machine! Is that big shiny lever the reverse lever? I like the looks of that machine - nice shiny bits!

I have a 128 but it doesn't have a lamp so that won't help you.

These are pictures of of a blackside 1950 128-23 they are a little dark. This one has the round back inspection plate. I have a 128-8 parts pdf that shows a little different light. Also the pdf 27-28 instruction manual from singerco.com shows the shade type light. Hope these help.

I tried to lighten up the pic but Paint just won't work like the old program I had. So my SEWMOR has the tear drop inspection plate on the rear, what does the machine you took the pic of have?
I was just curious cos the tear drop one looks to be quite a bit bigger than the round one.

Joe - May I suggest the program Irfanview? Free, super powerful, easy to use, been around for a LONG time.

Sure, you can suggest it. I did a Google on it. Looks interesting. Will check it out later when I'm more awake. Before going to this Windoz 7 I had Photo Impact and Photo Express that I used a lot. MS Paint is junk.

My apologies... I was in a hurry to get it posted before I went to work. I tried to lighten it up and tried a couple of different programs and wasn't having much luck. I dug the machine out again this morning, but didn't take a picture of the full back before I put it away again. :( Actually it looks like it is the same light that is on the 66 that Irishrose2 posted above. It is put on the machine differently (instead of coming off the side like the 128 - it looks like the 66 was attached to the same screw as the top of the inspection plate. I compared the 128 inspection plate to a 27 and the diameter is about 1/8" smaller total, then compared to a 28 and the round portion fits the round portion exactly. The apparent size difference is that the 'kidney' shaped one is longer. This is one picture that I took this morning.

I took a picture of the 99-13 light which appears to be the one like they show in the 27-28 instruction manual pdf that you can get from singerco.com

Also I looked again at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singer_Model_27_and_127 and near the bottom of the page maybe about 3/4 of the way down they have a picture of a lamp that is different than these two and says it is a "mercury clone" light.

Thanks for the pics and links. On the Widipedia page down towards the bottom there's a drawing that shows the kidney shaped light assembly. That is what I need for this SEWMOR.

Yes, there are some pics in there that look like the 128 machine. Some from the front and some from the back. A couple pics clearly show the kidney shaped cover both with and without the light assembly.

The book had slipped my mind till you reminded me of it.

Word to the wise. Don't let the round cover slip into the machine as you remove it. :o Mine did and I had to wait for my son to come shake it out - that little machine weighs 29 pounds.
