I have a chart on my thumb drive I got from somewhere on line. It's a Davis ((correction: it's a Boye)) chart. It says the New Homes use a #3 shuttle.
The chart in kevissstuff is a Boye chart and says the New Home uses a #3 also.
So I have to find a Davis parts list so I'll know what # they called for.

It's too early in the morning, perhaps I should just go back to bed. :(

I have three machines that use the Singer 27 /127 size, two machines that use the New Home #3 and one that uses a #9.

Since I do use them occasionally I'll be trying to find extras. I think I've got enough shuttle machines now.

OBTW, Helen Howe in the UK has a New Home shuttle with 1 bobbin for £15.00. I'll be looking a lot more before I go that route, I'd like to find one here in the US if I can. Save on shipping.

keep watching ebay...I got lucky I think. Scored new #3 w 2 bobbins for $7! We'll see if they actually show up.

What did you use as your search terms? I've been looking on eBay but haven't been successful. My search ability is pretty feeble.

I search under "Boye" in "antiques" and "collectables" or "Boye shuttle" in ebay. You need to search every day or a few times a day because the bargains are snapped up pretty quick.

Boye shuttle to spread a wide net. Also New Home shuttle. I got lucky and happened to check as soon as they were posted. They were BIN (BUY IT NOW price)

seller samkane had them and if you favorite him you'll be notified if thete's more listed. I also jusy bought on impulse, and shouldn't have a little Windsor B shuttle machine from him. It was just too cute. sigh...

The oil pocket is at the front most part of the shuttle's travel on my VS2 but it's definitely there. The tiny hole was also blocked. The oiling bit is not mentioned at all in the VS2 manual but I can see that there should have been a wick of some sort in there. I made one from the heavy felt-like stuff used on the bottom of chair legs (to prevent damage to wooden floors) put it into the hole and soaked it in oil. I can see that this is the part of the shuttle that doesn't contact thread.
So thanks Joe, you probably saved my shuttle from meeting an early end (funny that seeing it's already 122 years old).

I just took a photo to show people what to look for. If I've misinterpreted and this isn't an oiling thing, please let me know ;)

You got it right. Oil hole with a wick and horizontal passage. I think this is part of what used to be "common knowledge" when shuttle type machines were in every day use. I'm not sure any of the manuals I have mention this either, but I did read it somewhere. No idea where though.
