We had that done to one of our dogs,... he wasn't the same ever again either but probably more loving and less likely to take himself for an un-chaperoned walk...

I wanted to mention too that Brewer Sewing has a lot of the parts charts online. They're great for seeing what goes where when something drops into your lap or is left sitting on the table after (your first) reassembly. It's a horrible feeling though when stuff just drops out of nowhere and you didn't see it come apart.
