Singer 15-91

Yahoo. Just bought a 1946. Singer 15-91 in pristine condition. Been looking for a long time for upholstery work.

Good for you! that was the year I was born---so hopefully, it will work harder than I do!

Always wanted to find one the year I was born, 1952, but didn't happen. This 1946 Jewell will work.

Yipee! My 15-91 is a centennial, love it! It's so quiet and smooth...

I used mine to reupholster the table for my chiropractor. He bought very thick leather, imported from Australia. It was a full 1/4" thick when 2 pieces were sewn together. My machine handled it just like it was sewing through butter. I didn't even need to change the tension. I went from sewing cotton to 1/4" leather and back again with not a hitch. love this machine! (I did use a leather needle, that was the only change.)

Beautiful wood underneath all that flaking shellac! Somewhere on here there is a tutorial how to use denatured alcohol to dissolve the finish, redistribute it and then once it's dry, use Briwax to restore the finish.... dang if I can find it though. Does anyone remember seeing it?

I wish you were closer to me. I’m up to my ears in Singer 15-91s (8 of them), including two from 1952 (Mar 3 & Sept 23). Maybe I could bring one up to my daughter’s home in Wichita the next time I come to visit. It’s still a long way to Topeka from there though....
