Singer 15-91 dry schuck schuck sound ....

My beater 15-91 sews nice stitches but has from the beginning made a dry raspy shuck shuck sound that has been avoiding identification.

Tonight I got the machine out and as I've been finding out it needed oiled before use. Once the face plate was off I observed a piece of thread sticking out of one of the joints of the thread take up lever linkage. Using a tweezers I removed it. The sound has all but disappeared.

IIRC there was at least one other person with a Singer making that noise. Perhaps that machine has thread stuck in the linkage too.

Something to check.
