Singer 15-91 Pickup Issues

Hey there everyone! I have recently refurbished a 15-91 and I absolutely love the machine. I put some thicker denim thread into work with and the needle thread isn't picking up the bobbin thread correctly. Yes the machine is threaded correctly and the needle is facing the correct way, I've checked multiple times. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Make sure the needle is large enough to handle the thread size. Either a topstitch, or a "jeans" needle in 100-16, or 110-18 size would be appropriate.

Thank you I will give this a try!

When I've worked with the denim/top-stitch thread, I find that it helps to tighten the top tension -- almost as tight as it will go. But it never really looks great. So I've decided to just use a good polyester thread. If you want that thick thread look, you can sew around the hem 2 or 3 times.

For me I have found that my Singer machines don't really like the thick denim thread.
I always use one of my Kenmore machines with the denim thread. Even if you get
it to sew on the Singer you have trouble getting good tensions. It seems to be
the worst on 66 class bobbin machines.
