Singer 185J ----Help

I just bought a pretty little singer 185J. She came missing a few parts and no manual. She runs but I can't test drive to not having a sewing plate. Any info is greatly appreciated..... plus I'm trying to find a sewing table for her and or my fw....

thanks sammie

Hi sammie, I just got a Singer 185J too. She also is missing a few parts, and needs a good cleaning. I found a free manual on the Singer website, http://www.singerco.com/ I hope this helps. Look under Customer support.

I purchased a pretty little green 185J just before Christmas, she has no plate and the spool post is bent so she hasn't had any attention yet, hoping to give her a little love next week. Some one here suggested I cut an old credit card down to fit over the bobbin and tape it on - fabulous suggestion as it works like a dream...I have seen a number of 185's missing the plate - wonder why????

You should be able to get the cover plate and a spool pin from a local sewing shop, if not they can be ordered online. I think I paid about $6 for my plate. It is the same plate used on 66, 99, 192 and the 185. The reason they get lost is people get them off, but don't know the trick to getting them back on. You have to put them on from back to front. Once you know how, it is easy. Hope you find all the parts you need to get sewing. It is a really fun little machine.

I got a plate from sew-classic - she has class 66 bobbins too - you can test to see if the thread comes up from the bobbin before you invest any money in it - cute little buggers aren't they?

Thank ya'll for info. I tried the singer site for the manual. I think her serial # is JD816257. I found it engraded on the bottom. Is that where yours is?
