Singer 1889 Fiddlebase
4 Attachment(s)
I purchased this Singer in Wisconsin while visiting my sister for $20. It was just so different from anything that I had that I just had to buy it. I have been working on it for about 6 months. I took off the motor and the light and since it was somewhat freewheeling I thought I would make a hand crank machine out of it. Well, it had no boss mount so that was not going to work. I didn't want another treadle so I am thinking I can just crank it with my finger in the spoke since it turned so freely. I oiled it up really good and cleaned it up and then I tried my idea and it worked pretty darn good. Now granted I won't be using it very long at any one time because my hand gets tired but I have a hand crank and I can't use it for a long period of time for the same reason. I just thought you all might like to see what my 1889 fiddlebase singer looks like now. I just may have to display her somewhere as she is so pretty.

She is beautiful. The Fiddlebase is on my long lists of wants

She cleaned up pretty good. Nice find!

You have my "must have" machine.
|
That is the one I want for myself. I've looked everywhere for that one. hmmm maybe I need to go to Wisconsin.

That's a beautiful VS2. I have one that looks like it, alas without the decals. Yours look really nice.
That belt doesn't belong near the bobbin winder, incidentally. The machine is supposed to be in a treadle cabinet, and the treadle belt powers the bobbin winder. |
Great score!!!!!

Do you think I could get a belt that would fit on the bobbin winder and the wheel so I could wind a bobbin?
It wouldn't have occurred to me to modify the machine: I'd have searched for a treadle cabinet instead - it's a good excuse, isn't it? ;) |
