I had better control when I followed Archaicarcane's "at the races" instructions. At a later date I was able to buy an electronic controller on sale. World of difference, it's so much easier to control the speed now.

Thanks guys, when I got home last night I did try the cord from my 221, and it did not fit the 201-2. I ordered a new cord and control set.

I tried this with Archaicarcane's help ---- an excellent blog tutorial:
http://www.archaicarcane.com/singerattheraces/ for an unresponsive foot controler. There is also this, maybe, sewbeadit, this is what you were thinking of? http://www.archaicarcane.com/what-a-pile-of/ (carbon buttons..... ) Archaicarcane is a valued member of this forum. |
Great comment, Tammi. I know my son immediately re-wired my 201 (potted motor), and since I didn't have a foot pedal for it anyway, replacing it was not an issue. My 201 is a 1952 model, yet the decals are 98% intact, so I have NOT used it until I can get another coat (or two) of shellac (naturally, the shellac on it is cracking, etc., and I want to resolve that BEFORE the decals are damaged!

Sews, that is exactly what I was referring too, so glad someone could make sense out of my mumbling. I see and read things then can't remember where I found them at. My friend had the same problem but thought it was neat to have a racing and fast 201, which would have driven me nuts.lol Thank you sews for that info.
