First off, looks like the wrong bobbin. My 201 bobbin is slightly rounded on both sides.
Also check your needle is in the correct way. I had mine in wrong one day and it wouldn't pick up. easy tip, the curved part of your needle matches the curve if the plate under it.
Hope this fixes it. A 201 is a great machine.

Thank you Appin!

i didn’t know there is a specific bobbin I have to get. I have just now ordered some from EBay, will try when they arrive if the problem will be solved:)

Here's a nice bobbin chart for Singers

Yes, a Singer 201 uses class 66 bobbins. They seem to prefer metal over plastic. Do you have a manual?

Scroll down the page for the link to the 201 manual.

I don't know WIChix's link isn't hot - it is http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_mach...e-manuals.html

One needs to hold the end of the thread behind everything so that it is in a position like if you were sewing. Otherwise you will end with a bird's nest of thread in the bobbin area.

The bobbin area could use a good cleaning and polishing. It also looks like maybe the retaining ring is incorrectly located or missing. I can't really tell from the video There is are a couple of good blog posts about the 201 bobbin case and retaining ring at http://vssmb.blogspot.com/2011/07/ho...bbin-case.html and https://vssmb.blogspot.com/2011/07/2...g-ring-re.html

Usually, when that happens, it is because the needle is in wrong or threaded wrong or wrong needle system (very rare). It is possible the bobbin isn't threaded correctly. Did you follow the instructions from the manual? Is the bobbin going the correct direction and going through all the notches as shown in the manual? Is it under the spring, so that it doesn't pull as freely as it was just sitting there. Are you holding the top thread when you move the hand wheel to take the needle down and back up? Once the needle is back up and the take-up lever is back in the highest position pull on the top thread.

It looks like the bobbin thread is't threaded right, it should go in the tension spring and comes out again sort of nine-o'clock, then it goes straight over the bobbin to the hole in the needle plate. There is a small cut at the end of the bobbin cover; when you draw up the thread it makes sure it is in correct position. Make sure the bobbin turns the correct way once it's in. A 201 has the bobbin in the oposite way of a 66 or a 99. Once you get it, it is very easy.

Sorry, I have to take out my 201 to get this right, I keep confusing this going from a 99 to a 201, I need to have the machine in front of me to get it right LOL

When I look at your videos, it seems to me, that you do not hold the thread end with your finger when you start the stitch. You always need to do that. Normally a needle plate and fabric is needed for a proper loop to be formed in order for the hook to catch the needle thread. You may be able to catch the thread anyway, but it is harder for the machine this way.

And yes, as Appin write, you have got a class 15 bobbin in. It should be a class 66 bobbin.
