Singer 221~Stitch length and 1/4 inch foot??????
 
So I got Maggie May out and played with her for a bit. I could not get the stitch length I wanted:mad:, I know I am changing the stitch indicator correctly. What stitch length does everyone use for piecing? I also noticed I need a 1/4 inch foot or some kind of seam quite. Can you recommend which one you prefer??

Keep on playing with Maggie May. You can use a piece of Blue painters tape laid down on the bed of the machine for your 1/4 inch seams. As a suggestion, I use 1/4" graph paper to stitch on when I am trying to determine stitch length or 1/4" settings on a machine that does not have a manual or for reference when I do have a manual. I keep the paper with the manual if I have it or in three ring binder that I keep for my vintage sewing machines. I do think that there is a seam guide attachment that can be used with your 221. It screws onto the bed of the machine. Check your attachment box if you got one with your machine. I know, you are going to ask what it looks like. I am going to see if I have one for my 221 and take a picture for you amd post. If not I will take a picture of one from another machine.

Oh wait I miss understood, "screws ONTO the bed" of machine. HMMMMM, I don't think I have something like that.

Any low shank, 1/4" foot will work. Order it online or via ebay.

That one is your quilting foot...the seam guide (Caroline's going to show you) is going to be a "T" shaped, basically flat piece of metal that has a bend at the end of it that your fabric will butt up against as you sew. It'll have a slot in it where the screw goes to adjust the seam width. :)

Thank you, thank you for searching for these and posting pics. I don't have either of these so I will have to buy one. For now I will use the tape for seam allowance.

One more question, which stitch length are you using for piecing??
