Singer 27-4 Treadle Tension Problems - Update

Several days ago I posted a request for help for what I felt was a problem with the tension. I found a small amount of dust in the needle channel that goes down along the shuttle. The good news is the machine has been sewing beautiful stitches ever since. Today I filled a new bobbin, changed out the old one and rethreaded the machine and everything is good. Thanks again for your help.

Glad your treadle is working well. My treadle has a little wick in a hole in the shuttle bobbin area. That little wick is supposed to have oil on it to help keep the shuttle running smoothly. See if your machine has one too. Mine basically looks like a little hole with fuzz in it on the left of the shuttle area under the little metal plate.

Yes it does and I do keep it oiled. I have read that if you pull the wick out there is a tiny pinhole in the base of the wick holder which one can clean out with a fine pin because it can get sealed shut from old oil. I removed the wick and by using a flashlight, took a cottom swab and cleaned it thoroughly and tried to find the pin-size hole. Actually took a small pin and ran around the base and directly down into the bottom but the pin never found an opening. Have you ever tried to do this?

Those little holes are very hard to see looking down into the wick hole. It won't be on the bottom...it'll be near the bottom but on the right. Look for it on the shuttle side...it should be easier to spot there. And poke your pin from the outside into the wick area to clean it out.
