Singer 301 Feed dogs won't drop
 

I have a second 301 that I recently bought and have been working on. Got it cleaned, and oiled. It was really gunked up. I sewed with it this weekend. Tension is great. However, I can not get the feeds dogs to drop. I turn the knob underneath the extension plate - and it turns and turns and turns and turns (unlike my other 301) but the feed dogs do not drop.

Any ideas on what I should do?

The part that pulls back to release the feed dog mechanism, when you turn the knob, is probably still gunked up and stuck. Might need to get under there and move it by hand and get some oil in there.

HEAT - clean excess dried up oil and re-oil with T-F or a penetrating oil.

But where exactly do I need to clean/oil for this feed dog problem? I have the adjusters manual but I did not get a clear understanding of which areas should be addressed.

This weekend, I may also take my other 301 out of the card table and place them side by side and play with the 'good' one to see what moves vs the 'bad' one that does not.

The feed dog screw is under the lift up plate to the left of the bobbin. You can loosen or tighten it. Oiling it - you may need to go under the machine.

Follow the feed dog screw you turn under the bed and see where the linkages are. All of those need to be oiled. It's really easy to miss this spot, because it's in shadow if you have the machine on its back
