Singer 301A
 

I went garage saling today and found a Singer 301a, in the original cabinet with a seat, $20.00, its in great shape and so is the cabinet, came with lots of goodies and extra feet, it does turn on and the man that sold her to me says she works, light comes on, use to be his wife's machine, she passed away a bunch of years ago and has now decided to part with it, he says it may need to be cleaned, i can't fine the serial number, but i haven't looked to close. My hubs thinks i am crazy, but this is the first machine i found for a very good price, especially in a cabinet with a seat, with a bunch of doo dads with it. Don't have a camera so can't take pics, i guess i need a camera more, hah

Good for you! I am on a quest for a 301. I finally found my Featherweight about a year or so ago and so the 301 is next. Post a picture!!

You're going to love your 301!! There's a lever on the left hand side. Press it down and the machine will lift right out the the cabinet so that you can take it to a class. The serial number is on the bottom of the machine.

found my 301A last summer at yard sale, machine only, no cabinet, no attachments, and paid twice what you did and still think I got a good deal. Her name is Caroline. need to use her.

Congratulations! That is a great deal! Tell your husband that you could sell the bobbin case for more than you paid for the machine and all of the extras.

What color is yours? I got a black 301A a week ago, in a cabinet (no seat) for $40. Has multiple feet. I need to replace the cord before I use it. You got a great deal. Enjoy!

That's great, I got my 301a a few weeks ago and it was $50 in a cabinet with a seat and I was delighted. I have pieced a quilt on it already and it is fabulous. I love the clickety clack sound it makes and I lift it right out to take to classes. Mine is the tan colour and I love it. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

You got a fantastic deal at $20 for a 301 in a cabinet with the stool. Oh my!! You are a lucky gal!!! What color is it? Easy to get the cords, try Sew_Classic.com. They have lots of stuff for 301s. I paid $65 for mine, no cabinet, no attachments, no cord. I had to buy all that stuff, so ended up about $125 or so. So, like I said, YOU GOT a GREAT deal!! :-)

I got the mocha one for $80 plus shipping and I also bought a black one for $50. HOWEVER, the seller is handicapped and her dh works for FED EX and she sent pics and addresses with him to be packed and shipped. HMMM. I got someone else's HAND CRANK JONES --the prettiest machine in a wood case with key. Has a shuttle. However it was just stuck in a box with no padding no newspaper at least around it, the box did not fit as one end was caved in and no bubble wrap inside to keep it from rattling around. Now, I got an email that said to wait on shipping it to this other person, because FED EX is supposed to reimburse her and she will reimburse us, but what a mess. Hope that guy got my machine and was packed better than this one. Otherwise I am out $40 for the shipping and $50 for the machine.

I love the 301's so much Ihave 4 of them!!!!! I know I am crazy but I had to have one in each color,black, mocha, mocha and cream, and white.......yes, white-----Jacque here on the board told us about it on e-bay and I won the bid.....her fault......I have made quilts on them and they are my favorites ----well the featherweight is too---and the 201, 99's, and 15's .....Be careful collecting is addicting.....

Yep....just as everyone else said....You Got a Great Deal!! I have 7 of them and paid W-A-Y more than that for them.

My first sewing machine was a 301A, it was beige in color; was dumb
and traded it in on an Elna. the Elna was a great machine, but I wish
I had kept the 301A. The Elna got stolen from a western wear store
and I ended up with a New Home, it lasted 16 years and did a lot of
sewing. I have a friend that has the 301A machine and she is 89
years old and still uses it. Tell DH you got a bargain!

Thank you, i thought i did, i was so happy i sang all the way home, now to find the ever elusive feather weight, thank you for the tip on how to get it out, did not know this, on the bottom of the machine is a black plate, do you know why that is their, i have the book but haven't found it yet?? thank you for any help.

Wow! You found a great deal! I got mine off of ebay, and it only had one foot, and came in a case. Now I need to look for feet, etc.

It's how you access the guts of the machine. You'll need to open this to oil and lubricate, so you'd better download the manual.

So the color i have is mocha, i know its darker than tan, i didn't know they had differant colors, i can't believe its in such great shape, the man i bought it from said its been in his house, and there are a lot of attachments, still in the singer boxes.

I know i have to locate the serial number, but there is a black plate that i have to remove. Do you know when these machines came out?? The book that came with the machine was copyrighted in 1951, 1952 (year i was born) and 1953. And i am guessing this is just a straight stitch machine??

Not only did i tell DH about my bargin, i told DH, if he touches, he will lose his hands (lol) we have been married 40yrs this month and ever since i have known him, he takes things apart to see how they work, so this is an older machine and i can see him doing this, my dad has been gone since 1995 and he worked for a company that make grandfather clocks and he made one for me and my MIL, one night after i went to bed i woke up to the bonging of the clock and went out to investigate and guess who got caught in the headlight, and almost got hit with a bat. I was sooo mad, i started hitting on him, at that time in our lives he was a police officer he's lucky i didn't shoot him. Anyway, i may have to lock this machine up like i did my others to keep it safe from him, he just doesn't learn his lessons.
