Singer 328 k manual?
1 Attachment(s)
Ifound this machine at the thrift store for $15. I am looking for a machine to do straight stitch for mending while my other machine is setup for making a quilt. However there isn't a manual with it. Does anyone know where I can get one. As you can see there is a couple of covers missing on the front but I plugged it in and ran it before I bought it so the parts must not be essential. But I do need to know how to oil, thread and do the other things that need to be done to keep it up.
Thanks for any help you can give me. Lynda |
Oh please ignore the mess on the table. I am not a neat sewer and I use the room for too many things. Oh for a very large sewing room!!!

There are free manuals if you google and on the yahoo vintage singer group.

That is a link - just type in 328 and you should be able to get a manual. Looks like it does zig zag and takes disks!!!! Wow you did good! I bet once you get it up and running that machine will rock. I bet you can treadle it too. Some old Singers have knock out on the side of the base. Check the needle size. |
I had the 327k, predecessor to this machine, for many years. Got it in 1964 as a HS graduation gift. It was very easy to use and take care of. Mine did not have the capability of taking the cams, but did a nice zigzag stitch as well as a good straight stitch. Looks like the main thing you are missing is the 'hood' over the light. Not sure if that went all the way to the 'gold' cover or if there is another piece that should be there. I think you will enjoy this machine.

Thank you all. I had wondered if I could treadle it too. I would love to have that ability. It does seem to be missing the light cover but I don't know if there is something else to turn the light on and off. I have tried it out with a piece of fabric with a straight stitch and it is so quiet and sews beautifully. I did find a manual and now I will oil and clean it. I am pleased with it. Man it is heavy though.

Lynda, I treadle a Singer 328k. This machine is rather light compared to some other machines.

that is a beauty! You did good! My Wards Signature was made at about the same time as this machine I bet. Similar features. And Wilma (Wards machine) sews very quietly. I can sew at night and not keep anyone awake.

I see the knock outs are on the front - I was looking on the side - it will be a nice one to treadle.

PM me - I think I have two manuals for my 328K. You can have one.

I am so pleased with this machine! A blessing. Now if I can find a treadle cabinet. I am tickled that it can be treadled. Thank you for your offer. Lynda |
Did you get any cams with it? I have two or three duplicate cams if you want them.

How did you treadle your machine? I can see where the belt would go but not how to get the other off. There is a treadle machine at the same thrift store I got this machine at but the machine in the desk looks pretty bad but the table is in good shape. I will have to look at the price. I know I could buy a new table but the old would be so nice.

I have this same machine (328K) and two manuals. One the came with the machine and one I downloaded that covers the 99 series to the 400 series. In that downloaded manual, a Singer wrought iron treadle base is shown and talked about how to maintain it. I love those bases and have wanted one for quite some time.. But husband didn’t think our machine could fit in one until I showed him the manual and happened upon this old post showing you had installed your same machine into one! My questions are these, did you have to do any modifications to the wood cabinet for your machine to fit, and what were they? Thanks! |
