Singer 328k (How does this happen?)
 

How does the herd grow when I don't plan another vintage machine to be addded. Honest. A family member bought this for me for next to nothing. Of course, I said I would take it. Didn't know it was in a cabinet and had a heck of a time fitting it into my car!
What I've gleaned so far: Model 328k -- Singer made this one in Scotland, probably in 1961. One of the last made with all metal; not plastic gears, etc. Cannot locate a s/n anywhere.
On-line reviews run from lukewarm to good. Certainly is not one of the highly sought after models.
Potted motor; no belt.
Straight stitch only.
Cams available for decorative stitching (missing on mine)
Bobbin is standard 66 (common one, also available - didn't get one with mine)
Owner's manual available for free online (thank you!) (you guessed = didn't get one w/machine)
Needle also standard. (another sigh of relief)
Now the fun starts: Plug machine on and light works. Good. Try foot pedal and motor goes but needle does not go up & down. Tried adjusting middle knob in hand wheel but so far have not figured out why it's not catching. I'll play some more with it another day. Haven't cleaned it or oiled it yet but will do that next time too.

you will like it once you get it going - give it a good clean up then oil everything that moves inside and out - then see if it moves

Could very well be gunk in the hand wheel. My 327K (yours without the cam provision) had that problem

It is possible that someone took the balance wheel off and didn't get it on right. Try taking it apart, oil it up good and put it back together. Is it turning but nothing goes up and down? Or is it not turning and nothing going up and down? If it the wheel is turning and nothing going up and down it is the clutch not in right. If it is not turning and nothing going up and down, something has dried up oil or rust inside the machine. It will take some cleaning and oiling to hit the right spot. Tri-flow is the best investment you could make at this point. Keep everybody up to speed how it goes.

Nice! Usually I only see that style in a light blue color (model 327 maybe?). I like the silver. I don't remember reading anything bad about that series of machine so I'm guessing it'll be a good one for you.

It seems to me that some models tend to get passed by for either older or flashier machines and to me this is one of them along with others in the fashion mate and stylist series's. I just don't see a lot written about them.

For anyone who knows, what style cam does it take?

I think as soon as you get some cams you'll have your zigzag and decorative stitch abilities. It's part of the fun to find the right accessories anyway. :)

It takes the black flat cams. That machine is made so it can have a motor or you can run a belt through the channels and treadle it.

Actually, it does have a belt. You can see it if you take the panel off of the right side, below the hand wheel.

Should also zig zag, as that is what the lower middle lever on the front controls.
