Singer 401M, Jumped in the cart

Well, not really. But I usually do not get a cart when visiting my favorite thrift store, today I did. This machine came with a box of attachments, one cam in the machine, no manual. Question? How do I remove the machine from the plastic base?

Oh, she cost me $32 because it was senior citizen discount day.
Now off to find a manual online.

Figured out how to remove the machine from the plastic bottom, duh! The serial number is MB755464 which denotes she was made in Monza, Italy. She is my second Italian made Singer. Now I can give her a good cleaning and oiling before a test drive.

The state of Washington seems to be a hotbed of inexpensive vintage sewing machines! Did everyone in WA own a sewing machine??? LOL

Nice one, btw!

The only thing I can think of is that we have a lot of military moving in and out of our state. I don't know what it is but those sewing machines find me like a tick looking for a hound dog!

Good news though, my OSMG has the decorative cams that would have come with the 401, a manual and a service manual. What an awesome OSMG.

Lucky you! And that machine is treadle-able! There is a little knock-out on the bed where the belt can travel. I imagine there's one on the back, too. I've never seen one in the wild so I'm not sure how it works. The 401A is not treadle-able. The machine has a lot of decorative stitches built-in. You will love it. You have a fabulous OSMG!! Congrats.
