Singer 500
 

I have a Singer 500 that works pretty good......except lately it has developed a bad habit!?!!? I'll be sewing along and then it will stop and knot up under the fabric. It has been serviced lately and I keep it cleaned and oiled. It also does it after I have stopped and then start again. It looks like the bottom thread is getting caught on something, but not sure what to look for. Sure would like some suggestion!!!!! Bette

First let me ask this, did it do this before it was serviced?
If yes, the service guy didn't fix it.
If no, the service guy caused it.

Either way, I'd start by taking the machine back to him.

Elaine says it's a tension problem. Probably the top. If the tension is not right on top it will double loop, tangle up, give you rats nests and so forth.
I have a Kenmore that's doing that. If I run the top tension way tight it sews, if I set it at a normal tension it won't go three inches.

Oh, sorry that you are having trouble with your 500. Double check that it's threaded correctly, that the needle is in correctly and lastly, change the needle to see it the needle is causing the problem. Hopefully the solution is really simple!

Thank you Joe, I did tighten the tension and that has fixed my problem. I knew about that, but when you're frustrated, all thinking goes out the window!?!?!?! :)
