I am sooo excited I get my new to me and barely used at all Singer 500A in the cabinet and all of the accessories in the Jewel case!! Also the original bill of sale and the warranty sheet is still with the machine!!

I have been wanting this machine ever since I saw the rascal at my sons old schools annual garage sale. Our Principle grabbed it up about an hour or so before I got to the school to help price items. Since I am the Vice President of the PTO I thought I could pull rank on her and that failed miserably..... Then I started pulling $100 bills out and after I plopped 6 of them down she still would not sell it.

Well after a year of ribbing her she told me that if I made her a quilt that she would give me her (our) machine!!! :-D :-D :-D

So tomorrow morning I get to pick it up and bring it home!!

Nice Score, Billy!

I don't have the that one, but those who do, love them. Love it when people get excited about acquiring a sewing machine. Plus, a cabinet and the accessories make it perfect.

Don't forget to post pics when you get it home!

This is a quilt that I appliqued with my 500A. I have lots of cams and attachments, and would love to know more about all the features of the machine. Please share what you learn!!

Wooohooo. I'm happy for you. When you get her please post a pic.

Oh I will for sure but I am sitting here wondering where the heck am I going to put it? I have a spot for it no problem but now I will need to find a spot for my Pearl Purple Kenmore. These are the only electric machines I own (well the Singer 128 that Jan sent me is electric for now but it will be a handcrank before long).

I have a friend girl that just got into quilting and I am thinking of letting her use it indefinitely so I will not have to worry about space. But I have 2 sewing machines in our sunroom where I am at and then I have my hallway lined with treadles, the Studio has a wall unit full of machines and the attic has a large amount of machines I use for parts and some future restorations.

I need more room......

Oh and I forgot about the Singer 185J that is coming from Boston that will be converted to treadle.

Hi Billy, I also have this machine and it DOES sew like a dream. The straight stitch is the straightest stitch I have ever seen. It was given to me by one of my best friends. I don't have all the feet though. I won't part with it. It will be passed on. Good Luck with yours. Don't forget to oil it. Anne

Oh I am a stickler about machine maintenance!! I service vintage machines along with restoring them so its almost second nature for me to do just that.

I am just soo excited I do not even want to go to sleep tonight. Kinda like we were when we were kids waiting on Santa to come!!

She bought another vintage machine that has all the bells and whistles. I will have to ask her what it is, but she fell in love with it and had to have it!

I think she ended up with a Riccar.

I picked up the machine today and I am completely bummed out. She left the machine sitting out in the elements and the finish is coming off of the cabinet and the papers, accessories, cams and all are missing. The machine is not frozen but it is very stiff to move so I am going to have to tear it all the way apart and give it a complete service.

I can not believe that she did this to a 500A

I will post a few photos of it as it sits and hope I can save the cabinet.

Oh Billy! What a shame...such a nice machine doesn't deserve that kind of treatment....

Here are the photos, I can save it but the cabinet is going to need the most work of it all.

Well for what its worth I have the machine back together and it runs like a champ!!!

But there is a few issues I have to deal with. I am still missing cams but I found a box of accessories for a 301 that most of the feet that were with the machine originally. But I am missing the Zig Zag foot so I can not play with the optional stitches. The cabinet needs refinishing and I really do not like messing with the cabinets but looks like I will for this one.

All in all this is a wonderful machine and I really love the fact that it does all of the fancy things that the new ones can do.

I have a 500a, but she hasn't been working right :-( I use to use her daily, but she is skipping stitches and I don't know why. I have tried everything I can think of....short of taking her to a repair shop (which I just can't afford).

Enjoy your machine!!!!!!

I just bought a 500a, this past week from Craigslist!!!! This particular kind of machine has been on my "wishlist" ever since I saw a picture of one.

It came in a cabinet that isn't too ugly, has instructions and the cams. I paid $75.00. Not sure if that is a good price or not but it was close to home so I snatched it up. :-D

KellyK 10-05-2010 02:07 PM

I just cannot stand when people neglect things like that. At least now it is in good hands, but what a bummer!

Has anyone done free motion quilting on their 500A? I'm still unable to get that to work on mine and hoping someone has some advice on tensions or ... Lol, that is all I can think of right now!

Congrats! I think it is a really good price, they go for a lot more on ebay!
