Singer 600 available near me

Good Morning again Ladies . .

my c/l has a listing for a Singer 600, and I'd like to have your wisdom on it!!

Has cabinet, attachments, and manual. He says it is the last model to have all metal gears. I have done some reading in 'vintage' and have seen the general perception of plastic gears!

he is asking $60.

I am SO broke, and I just got the $20 Singer 248 that I still haven't smoothed the tension problems. My husband was just like "What?!" !! lol . . .

Should my crazy self even be considering it?

thanks so much!
Lara

Leave it. Way over priced in my humble opinion. I would save up for a Singer 301 $45-$150 or if you are OK with the weight Singer 15-91 $45-$100.

Anna, what do you think would be fair for it? I thought he take fifty, and maybe forty if he liked me!

there are only two on ebay. one has no cord - thirty, and one seems fully loaded, but isn't described very well. Asking 100 for it, with one offer in.

The all metal seems to be a great feature . . .

can you tell me more about a 301?

;0)

Google Singer 301. There's plenty of info. out there if you look.

Lara122 08-09-2012 07:34 AM

I am not really 'looking' for one . . . I got the 248, and came to the vintage section, and now I am obsessed!! So, of course, I went and played on c/l, and found the 600. Now, there is a 15-91 also, with a large cabinet for $150.

i have ebay set to cheapest first, which I just realized is why it is taking me so long to see a 301!

Are those two just good solid machines for vintage ones?

Lara122 08-09-2012 08:12 AM

you know what, I blame the picture of that Rocketeer. WOW!

Seems like the 15-91 near me might be a good deal.

Sometimes I dislike being poor more than others! lol

xxxxxxxxxx 08-09-2012 08:34 AM

lara a 15-91 at 150 $ usd is not any kind of a deal. fact it's 100 over the going price..

Lara122 08-09-2012 08:41 AM

Wow! From just internet-jumping it looked like the machines were seventy to a hundred, and so were the cabinets . .

I would expect his price to have some 'room'. My daddy did teach me to never pay 'sticker'!!

I haven't contacted either seller (15-91 or 600).

am I allowed to share c/l links?

;0)

you can post all the c/l adds you want.

I can tell you on this sticker price thing, your daddy would have never bought a thing from me. I price fair and below the average rate,, say a word about my price and I say good bye to you .

Lara122 08-09-2012 09:19 AM

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/atq/3157278743.html this is the 15-91.

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/fuo/3126149247.html the Singer 600.

In general, I don't think of fair prices as 'sticker', you know? I agree with you totally, too. I had someone lowball me for my van, and I flat told him I would take a baseball bat to it myself, before I let it go for *that*!

My daddy is funny about pricing. We looked at Jeeps when I was twenty, and of course their prices were firm. (summertime). I ended up going with something completely different. i at least wanted some free floormats! ;0)

are the singer 600's slant needle? if so will attachments work on a 301?

Lara122 08-10-2012 02:52 PM

Hey Esther, I *so* Do not know!! ;0)

I am woefully uneducated on vintage machines, though I am learning! =) Reading old posts has been fun!

Lara,
From the pictures of the 600, it looks like there are attachments, but no extra cams. If there are no cams you have a dickering point. My original 600 has about 6 cams in a paper box with the attachments. These cams are what will give you any additional stitches besides the basic zigzag and spinoffs from that (i.e.hem stitch)

Unlike many of the members on the board -- I love my 600s -- find them very dependable, tension stays put, have had no problems w/them. Got the first new, bought one used and was given a 600e. the 600e isn't the quality of the regular 600 especially the castings. But, most of the parts will be usable should anything fail on the others.

oh, these are some good thoughts Kay!

Now I have found a red eye with a table that may or may not work, for fifty.

I am such a goober!

I feel like a kitten in a yarn store!

That Singer 600's attachments don't fit the machine. You would also have to buy a set of disks. Those machines are a little tricky to use and repair. I would go for something simple and much cheaper - try a Japanese 15 Here is a link for more information: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...p-t164361.html
