Singer 66
2 Attachment(s)
Called Singer and found out newest machine is a model 66, made 2-20-1920. This is the last machine I can have but she is in a nice small cabinet so now I have to go find room for her.
was told no more we don't have room, true so this is it. |
She's a beauty. I like the cabinet too.

Lovely machine...and cabinet!

Wish it was mine ! Hugs
|
She is a beauty!!!!
|
She and her cabinet are beautiful, you will enjoy sewing on her.
|
Oh, a red eye. She's a beauty, love that cabinet.
|
Good for you! Have fun!
|
Love that cabinet! The last 66 I got was in a cabinet beyond repair! I finished peeling the veneer off of it and decoupaged black and white toile on the top of it and painted the rest of it in black lacquer. I put crystal knobs on it and it is really cute. Those old girls sew so well! Love them!

She's sure a beauty and so is the cabinet.

Welcome to the group of us who own what I think is the prettiest Singer made, the Red Eye Singers. We need to form a 'club' like the featherwieght owners on here. Yours is just two years older than mine. Love the cabinet she came in. Mine is a portable with the bentwood case. Enjoy !!!!!

Great machine! I like how the decals on the machines found in those fancier parlor type cabinets are usually in such good shape. You are right to find room for that one :)
|
They weren't just red eye decals outside of the U.S. I have three of them: One a red eye, one lotus and the third Tiffany/Gingerbread. Wonderful machines, very forgiving, and what a stitch! If they had reverse they'd be perfect.
I have a theory as to why all the second hand 66s are missing the base plates: People find them and can't work out how to remove the base plate. They pull really hard on it, it comes off, and they can't put it back on (because they're trying to put it on the wrong way), therefore it must be broken. What do you do then? Throw it out of course! Anyone have experience of this? I'd really like to know why they're all missing it. My local sewing parts shop keeps them in stock because there's that much demand for them! |

I'm keeping it now in case I run across a machine that needs one. So far, all of the machines I have bought have had their slide plates.
Lucky you getting them with the machines. I've bought three now and only one of them came with it. You do support the hypothesis though: When I bought the replacement, even the salesman (who's old and knowledgeable about sewing machines) didn't know how to put it on, so I looked in the manual when I got home. |
May I ask a question?

I have the same style cabinet. In there any way you could e-mail me a picture of the open cabinet? I need to create the mechanism that opens the front door. There looks to be a place for a rod/slat to go into. I'd like to open it the way it should be opened. Thank you kindly. Deb99 I have my great grandmother's Red-eye in a cabinet with small slide in & out drawers, two on each side. The cabinet top is in sad shape. A friend gave me another one in much better shape. |

Hi, I know this is quite an old post, but I was wondering if you, or anyone with the same cabinet had a spare key, or a picture of their key, as the key has been lost for mine
thanks |

If you have a cabinet like the opening poster (who hasn't been online since 2017) with a keyhole that looks like a skeleton key would fit, there is a parts list and the key is pictured at https://www.manualslib.com/manual/15...page=51#manual

Welcome, hcgmurphy. Can you shine a flashlight into the hole to see if it has a rectangular or square hole? I have a Weed that had a square, but smaller than a Singer square. I used a square bit to determine the size. I had my brother make a square one to work on my sister's Singer machine from a skeleton key.
We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button. I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures. https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...p-location.jpg Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...d-t312607.html Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |

Yes, that is definitely a skeleton key. I hope the one you found will work. I don't know if the parts list that I linked to will print out correctly. I know in the past that I have printed Singer Parts List pages and used it to identify some screws when I was working on my sister's 66-1. It looks like https://www.manualslib.com/manual/15...page=51#manual is a full size. Perhaps a locksmith could make one, if the one you get doesn't work. I have also tried to make a few for the bentwood cases. They don't look the best, but they do work. Actually, I think the one with the blue around the top was one that I had a locksmith make for me.
