Singer 99 dedicated buttonhole!
 

Killed two birds with one stone today. I enjoy using the old singer buttonholer, but hate fiddling with the plate that goes over the feed dogs. One of the older 99s that I have has no reverse, just the knob to control the stitch length. So it dawned on me to combine the two and just have a dedicated buttonholer. I removed the feed dogs from the old 99 will leave the buttonholer on it. Works great, no need for that cover plate, and with the button hole attachment I have no need for reverse. A marriage made in heaven!

I have set up my 99 as buttonholer too, but only for shorter periods. I have the square cover plate in place, and it hasn't been any trouble. Remember to oil the buttonholer, it runs easier and clicks along smoother. That is the tiniest wooden base I have seen, it looks great!

Thanks, I made a few out of some oak that I salvaged from pallets. I use them with machines that didn't come with decent bases.

I love my Singer 99 HC for button holes. I leave off the slide plate. It is so easy to monitor bobbin thread and change it when needed. I left the feed dogs alone and just use the plate so everything is the right height and the fabric moves through well.

Love that pallet frame. My hubby makes them out of some reclaimed poplar.

There used to be transparent slide plates made for these. I regret not buying one, if they are still available I shall jump at first chance. I like to keep things original, and assume an acrylic plate would only last a while. I have used Apollo bobbins in my 99 and haven't had any problems, but I tend to prefere the metal version.
