How do you go about cleaning the machine. It 's a machine you never have to oil. Is there something I need to now about working on this machine? I have always cleaned my own machines.

If you don't have a manual here's a link to one https://www.manualslib.com/manual/50...00.html#manual

I owned a Singer 1036, later less expensive non electronic model that had the same body as the Athena. This is "do so at you own risk" advice. Whenever I cleaned my machine I would remove the bottom cover and clean out all the lint as best as I could. There were two plastic gears below the bobbin winder that I could clean occasionally and grease with new grease. I'm not sure if Singer still sells that grease now. I was able to keep the machine running for over 30 years with no service calls.

My Gf's Athena was in desperate need of oil when she got it. It is a pain to get to all the points where it needs oil. Way too much plastic But it ran far better after I'd paid it is visit.

It has been too long for me to tell you how I got into it.
